For the disturb the universe project I was in a group with Lucy, Abby, and Rachel B. we decided we wanted to make food for a group of people and we were all excited to deliver it.
On December 14 everyone came over to my house to make lunch. We prepared tacos, apples and dip, veggies and dip, and cupcakes. Abby browned the meat for the tacos. Rachel and I made the dip and cut everything up. Rachel baked the cupcakes the night before at her house. Lucy was at my kitchen table and she made a bunch of cards. It did not take very long to prepare the food so we sat down with Lucy. Rachel helped with the cards and Abby and I wrote on the inside. When we were all done my mom drove us to the place we were going to donate the food. We chose to give our food to the Woman’s Place of Refuge. It is a home that woman and children can go if the mother has no place to stay or is trying to stay away from an abusive male. At the time there were three mothers, a few kids, and at least one of the mother’s was pregnant. The house mother’s name was Ronnie. Ronnie and her husband have an apartment attached to the back of the house. She is the 24/7 caretaker and does everything for the women. Ronnie’s children are all grown up so her entire life is devoted to these women. We stayed around and talked to Ronnie for a while and eventually one of the mother’s came downstairs. She was very scared and cautious around us. These women have been abused so much they have learned to be very cautious and not very trustworthy.
This was a fun project; it was cool to get together with friends and help someone. It was extremely easy and inexpensive I know it really helped the women out and I hope we can make food for them again.
