I am so happy we did this project. It was especially good to do around Christmas because it was a good reminder of how fortunate and blessed we really are. Personally it really put things into perspective and I was blessed to have the opportunity to witness.

I really enjoyed this project. It was interesting to go into someone else's home and really know you are making a difference in their lives. It possibly made a bigger impact on me than it did for them. They only had a meal for a night and that was probably the biggest change for them. For me I got a chance to really feel good and know I spent a Saturday morning helping someone. Luke 6:38 it says: Give, and it will be given to you. in  Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” I know that God gives us gifts and talents, to not keep for ourselves, but to spread his word. I think that we spread his word specifically through our Christmas cards. All of the cards had a different message and a different bible verse from the Christmas story. Although the Place of Refuge is a Christian organization, many of these women could have their doubts and question God. that is why this place is so great, it keeps women and children safe while spreading God's word.

This disturb the universe project has many different connections to the Kite Runner, but a main connection would be how we are all similar but we are put under different circumstances. Just like the women at the Place of Refuge, we are all human, sinful, and always make mistakes. We have been blessed with more opportunities and different lifestyles than the women. These women have Ronnie and other people to take care of them and keep them safe. We helped these women in our own way and it was something that we felt could impact their lives, but also ours. In the Kite Runner I compared Amir to the orphans, specifically Sorab. Both people were human, born and raised in the same city, and both were impacted by the Taliban. Amir was fortunate and moved to America and grew up with many riches. Sorab was not so blessed; he grew up war surrounding him and also grew up in poverty. Just like the women, the orphans needed other people to help them and keep them stable. Just like us, Amir helped out people in need. He did something a lot bigger; he traveled across the world and put his life in danger. We drove 20 minutes east and the only dangerous thing about it was that there was a big snow storm the night before. Amir, my friends, and I were all given an opportunity to help someone; in Amir’s life changed forever with another child and we were given the blessing that we helped someone in need.
